Intimate Greenhouse Wedding: Lisa + James

So often winter celebrations stick to a blue and white or red and green color palette — lots of cool tones with rosy cheeks. This February, we decided to try something a little different to spark inspiration for all of you planning events during the colder seasons. We were inspired by a fantastic couple to feature olives and jewel tones that pop against an arid winter backdrop. With creative couple Lisa and James as our muse, we were able to bring their playful personalities to life with expressions of color and whimsical details in this sweet, intimate styled shoot.

Taylor of TMInspired had been dreaming of a greenhouse photo shoot long before she relocated to the Pacific Northwest. The year prior, Kate of Tapestry Event Co. had prioritized finding intimate venues for her couples to have their gatherings. Together, they knew they could find the perfect fit for their creative endeavor and their future clients. Christianson’s Nursery checked all the boxes as a new go-to space for intimate ceremonies. They had a meeting and walk-through a week before Lisa and James’ day (with Taylor’s dog!) in order to scope out what equipment they would need to bring into the space and what the venue could supply. Christianson’s Nursery has multiple event spaces to choose from, a small schoolhouse that would fit 50 people in a ceremony, the greenhouse, the propagation house, and outdoor picnic tables in a field with plenty of space for a dance floor. They even have beautiful chairs onsite for use during your occasion. Kate and Taylor scoped out routes through the fields and grass that Lisa could safely traverse in heels and checked in on the areas the possible snow could impact. Confident that the space would be able to meet all their expectations, they confirmed the location.

When Taylor contacted Lisa and James, they were excited to participate, to celebrate their love through gorgeous photos, and participate in a concept that particularly spoke to their artistic sensibilities. Years ago, they met at a coffee shop in Poulsbo. He worked at a nearby restaurant and started frequenting the coffee shop more often when Lisa started working there. Once she finally accepted his offers to take her on a date, they went for a walk in the park with her dog, Kona. Kona approved, and the rest of the story fell into place! Bringing warmth and vibrancy into a sometimes humdrum season was important to the couple and reflected their adventure-seeking spirits.

The morning of, Lisa did her own hair, styling it with LiSun’s make up in mind. Around 12:00pm, LiSun highlighted all of Lisa’s stunning features to make her glow for the camera. Her color intelligence and versatility spoke to the color palette of the dress and brought a beautiful warmth to their looks. The couple headed to Mt. Vernon, ready to share this momentous experience together.

Once at Christianson’s Nursery, Lisa and James brought touches of their own personality to every part of the day. Taylor helped Lisa get into her gorgeous Claire Pettibone gown while James practiced his guitar. The dress was made of two central ideas that blended together the complementary ideas of the shoot: warm hues in the skirt, like the blooms, and the icy floral applique, like the winter outside. Nathan of Ochoa Films, and Taylor’s husband, captured the intimate moments of their time together. Working couple to couple was smooth, allowing for all to feel comfortable in their love and adoration of their partners, as that is truly what the day was about capturing.

During the ceremony, James sang and played a song for Lisa. It was lovely to see how comfortable and deeply present they were with one another. His velvet own velvet jacket brought his personality into the shoot, while the multiple instruments he brought along made the space theirs. Lisa also brought her own effects to let her personality shine through; the jewelry and shoes made her design aesthetic pop with color.

While the couple hosted their own intimate ceremony, Kate and florists JoAnne and Adina of Blumblebee Bridal Works set up the tablescape in the greenhouse. They made gorgeous carnation garlands to hang in the schoolhouse and brought more carnations and handcrafted pom poms as well as a gorgeous statement piece for the table. The two ladies were equally excited about Taylor’s vision, bringing in desert tones that complemented the propagation house. They provided Kate and Taylor with a whole floral menu before the shoot so that Kate could coordinate the stationary and table rentals with their choices. With the eye-catching desserts from Botanical Bakery Seattle (pressed flowers in the cookies and lollipops — hello, color!) and unique place settings from Cherry Rentals & Event Design, Kate was able to make a fresh and vibrant tablescape for the couple to celebrate their love.

Lisa and James were able to use the various spaces to take gorgeous photos that reflected who they were at their core, peaceful demeanors with fun-loving spirits. The propagation house was especially perfect for portraits because of all the lush, deep greens that contrasted wonderfully with the Claire Pettibone dress. The color pallet popped against the natural background, making Créé + Co’s careful calligraphy and invitation design look impeccable. They were so intentional in their inclusion of vibrant yellows and pinks in their pallet to bring those jewel tones into a winter setting. Lisa loved the organic yet brilliant color notes and was especially involved in the design process with her unique attention to detail, making the day smoother due to her active participation in the concept. Their love for music filled the space with joy and intention.

Tapestry Event Co. is so thankful to Lisa and James and their joyful collaboration with us and their vendors to make this day special. James’s easy-going and playful attitude perfectly complemented Lisa’s active and attentive spirit. We had a privilege to bear witness to the love and humor that they bring into the world.
