Colorful + Eclectic DIY Wedding at JM Cellars

DIY weddings can be an immense amount of work, especially if you’ve never planned a wedding before (and we’re guessing that the majority of you fall into that category!). Andra and Jamie’s colorful, eclectic JM Cellars wedding is the prime example of DIY done right: highly expressive and engaging, thoughtful and thorough, and creatively overflowing. The two were unafraid to take their time or invest effort into their ideas, and as a result, their wedding was a revelation of the beauty, abundance, and well-rounded partnership they’ve created together. We were so honored to be the planners who got to support them throughout the entire process.

The couple: Andra + Jamie

Before we dive into the visions that brought this unforgettable day to life, we must first share a bit about the couple themselves, as they are the ones whose creative minds started it all. It was such a pleasure getting to know Andra and Jamie as humans before we worked together as bride, groom, and wedding planner; it was clear right from the get go that these two were creatives in their own right, and that their celebration would be reflective of that fact. In fact, Andra is the sole proprietor of her own bridal alterations business—so she was excited to be stepping into the shoes of her clients for once!

Both Andra and Jamie are incredibly creative souls; Jamie loves to write and do watercolor paintings, and if you were to visit their home, you’d even find a pottery studio, and a well-kept garden. The two are always daydreaming about the next thing to create, no matter the medium, and describe themselves as “jacks of all trades;” a persona they undoubtedly carried into their wedding planning. When inquiring with Tapestry about their day, Andra and Jamie let us know that they were eager to design their own wedding, but needed help clarifying and narrowing down their options. We were, of course, more than thrilled to fill that role for them, and to share a bit of the logistical burden of the planning process.

The vision: creative, eclectic, and self-expressive

The vision for this wedding at JM Cellars was creativity and self-expression above all else; Andra and Jamie craved the freedom to design an eclectic, intimate, and warm event that felt artistic and free, while also ensuring the practical, logistical side of things was taken care of (that’s where we came in!). Being that both Andra and Jamie are very creative, it was important to them that their day be filled with an abundance of artistic touches—a mix of Andra’s art-deco-meets-art-noveau style, and Jamie’s preferred Scandinavian-meets-MCM. They wanted this blend of elements and styles to feel reminiscent of the home they share together, which reflects their love for each other’s styles and creates a one-of-a-kind atmosphere beautifully fit for the pair. Their ideal day was not only a way for them to express themselves, but also an opportunity to spend quality time with close friends and family, to make every person feel special and so incredibly welcomed.

DIY done right

We wanted to showcase the incredible amount of work and heart poured into this day by Andra and Jamie, as well as share a bit about Tapestry’s approach to DIY weddings as professional planners. We feel that DIY can be such a phenomenal way to express your unique personalities and creative tastes—when done right.

At Tapestry, we not only offer hands-on, full-service wedding planning; we also offer a variety of DIY resources to aid couples in designing a seamless day fit to their own unique vision. We are big believers in being intentional and selective with the DIY projects you take on when planning your wedding, and ensuring that the projects you do decide to tackle are reflective of your interests, passions, and values. Andra and Jamie’s wedding is an excellent example of doing DIY in a tasteful, thoughtful manner, and having a team by your side to help you seamlessly execute every piece of your dream day. Incorporating DIY elements into your wedding does not mean you have to do it alone; in fact, we believe DIY is best done with experienced professionals nearby to provide support as needed!

As Andra and Jamie’s planners, we took care to keep their self-made contributions organized and accounted for in their celebration plan. Their stationery was designed by Jamie with hand sewn details from Andra, who designed and sewed her beautiful blue dress! The bride and groom collaborated with Tapestry on their tablescape design, which featured table runners, ceramic place cards, and table number holders all created by the bride as well. We loved the audio guest book and guest quiz provided at the reception—not only were these unique, fun ways to invite their guests to participate and leave their well wishes, but they were also another DIY element made by Jamie!

Our planning team was challenged to make Andra and Jamie’s robust designs look fun and dynamic without being cluttered; we channeled quirky without the kitsch, playful romance sans gravitas. The scattered colors and textures of the floral playing off the foundational design and handmade details worked in unison, and we could not have been happier with the final design. All the little homemade touches, from the ceramics to the customized logo and design, was so true to the two of them; you could see their relationship and personalities bubbling over everywhere, even without knowing them prior. They left no stone unturned and every element made a difference toward the bigger picture.

To ensure your DIY process is intentional, efficient, and burnout-free, we’ve created an entire collection of DIY Wedding Planning Tools inside of the Tapestry Touch.

Whether you’re in desperate need of help writing your vows, or your friend/family member who is officiating for you needs guidance in writing your ceremony, we’ve compiled all of our top pieces of advice and packaged them up for you in a way that just makes sense.

And be sure to keep your eye out for additional products coming in the rest of 2024!

Love from Andra + Jamie

“Kate and the whole team at Tapestry were the cornerstone of our perfect wedding.

Beginning over a year ahead of our wedding and through the early morning hours following it, Kate and everyone at Tapestry were wholly committed to creating a beautiful wedding that was both stress-free and deeply special to us. Kate’s experience is evident in her considerable expertise regarding PNW weddings and many of the vendors, as well as her ease in supporting our new ideas and unique vendors.

We’re thankful for the once in a lifetime experience Kate and Tapestry helped us craft, though a little sad that means we only got to work with them once. We’d eagerly do it again!”
