Saltwater Farm, Friday Harbor: A Weekend Planned With Intention
Planning a wedding at Saltwater Farm should feel like arriving on the island and taking a deep breath. The ferry ride sets the tone, the fields open up, and the weekend becomes an experience instead of a single-day sprint. This story walks through how we partnered with Brandon and Dan to design a guest-first celebration at Saltwater Farm in Friday Harbor, from the design vision to the international hospitality and the kind of dance party that lives in your bones.
The Couple
Brandon and Dan move through life with a rhythm that fits them perfectly. Brandon charms the front desk while Dan solves the puzzle in the background. If an ID goes missing, they improvise. If a passport gets left at home, they reset and keep going. There was even a minor apartment fire where Dan stayed calm while Brandon rallied the neighbors. Trust and humor are their constants, and that energy guided every choice they made together for their wedding day.
Why They Hired Tapestry
Both work at Amazon and are highly detail oriented, yet they wanted a partner to pull the pieces together and carry the weight. They asked for support with design translation, guest communication, ceremony structure, timeline creation, boundary setting, and maintaining a steady mindset through the entire process. With half the guest list flying in from Europe and Brazil, they also needed a planner who could produce a full weekend of events. We shaped a welcome party, a wedding day at Saltwater Farm, and a send-off brunch that felt relaxed and cohesive.
Design Vision for Saltwater Farm
We aimed for laid back island energy with modern finishes that mirrored the couple’s personal style. The San Juan landscape was the foundation. Specialty rentals, clean lines, intentional color, and layered textures added polish without losing ease. Every space, from ceremony lawn to cocktail flow to dinner seating, was curated to invite conversation and keep guests comfortable. Also… have you seen their dance floor??? Maybe one of the coolest parts of the design with a living ceiling and disco balls it really elevated the party and made it feel night club vibes.
Hosting an International Guest List
Clear information is hospitality. We built a communication plan that began months ahead, including a website and supportive emails that covered ferry tips, travel routes, attire for island weather, and gentle cultural context for the weekend. Guests arrived informed, relaxed, and ready to connect. A full-scale planner turns this from a nice touch into a system. We align language across every channel, field guest questions before they become stress points, track RSVPs and travel windows, and coordinate accessibility, dietary needs, childcare, and transportation. We manage time zones for international guests, send timely reminders, and create on-site signage and QR codes for real-time updates. The result is a weekend that feels effortless to your guests and light on your shoulders, because the information is accurate, consistent, and already handled.
The Weekend Flow
The welcome party gave everyone a soft landing, especially those with jet lag. The wedding day at Saltwater Farm centered on a ceremony rooted in their story, followed by an evening that embraced Brazilian hospitality with generous rounds of food and hand-shaken cocktails. The farewell brunch closed the loop with light bites and an easy goodbye so guests left full and happy.
Highlights from the Day
The guests were an absolute joy and met the weekend with style and heart. The catering and bar teams delivered the spirit of a long format Brazilian celebration, keeping energy steady with thoughtful service that never felt rushed. A DJ flown in from Brazil held ten hours of music and built a dance floor that never lost momentum, while LightSmiths shaped the room with lighting that moved from vows to last hugs. Apotheca Designs created floral environments that framed the property without blocking the view. Our rental curation stitched Brandon and Dan’s personal style into every space and made the venue feel like theirs.
